Hogswart Cake

We are so excited to share with you our

Hogswart Cake

This is the cake that almost did not happen.
The morning of the Birthday party I dropped the CAKE.
Yes, the WHOLE CAKE!

What's a Mom to do???

Talk about a mad dash to come up with a cake.
Walmart- did not have any plain cakes.
Albertsons- They need 24 hour notice.
Small Bakery around the corner- Yes but lots of $$$$
You guessed it, the $$$$ won.

What did we use to make the cake?

Romantic Castle Cake Set

We wrapped each piece with gray or black color fondant.

How do you pronounce fondant???

Spray the cake with edible spray paint.
What- you ask?  Yes, Edible Spray Paint!

Halloween Color Mist™ Food Color Spray
Again from Wilton

It would not be a Hogswart Cake with out ...

Harry, Ron, Hermione and Hedwig

We could not forget
Hagrid

or the Sorting Hat

Each of the characters were hand made by sculpting colored fondant.
Think of playing with edible play-doh.
Fun Fun Fun - Yum Yum Yum

Happy 25th Birthday Sarah

We even had Wands for the Hogswart students
Here is a link on how to make the Wands
Easy Peasy!!!

We are soooo lucky because look at all of the celebrities who showed up at our party.

Luna Lovegood and Rita Skeeter

Hagrid consoling Moaning Myrtle and He who should not be named and Fleur Delacour

Tonks and two of the Weasley Kids
Is that George or Fred??  I can never tell them apart.

Bellatrix with a Golden Snitch and a Numbus 2011.

Look even the water bottles came in costume.

Picture Props

What party is complete without pictures? To get our party started we came up with this grand idea for a photo booth. Simple yet easy to make and outrageously cheap (we had all the supplies needed on hand). Remember we are doing the Stash Busting Challenge, so everything we use must come from the stash.

Back-Drop, hum what do we use??? Simple, a black table cloth tacked to the wall.

How do we make the props? Eezie-Peezie! I designed a few 'staches, lips, fancy glasses. Printed the shapes onto cardstock and glued to the felt. Make sure the glue is dry then cut out the designs. Then hot glue the dowel to the card stock side of the designs.

Supplies:
Dowels
Felt
Card Stock
Hot Glue

Proof of how much fun props can be!

Pucker up and gimme a kiss

VoilĂ ! The best part of this DIY project it was simple and FREE… •

Harry Potter Wands

No respectful Harry Potter party will be complete without wands. Where did you get the wands was the questions of the night? We made the wands (from our stash of crafts).

Sorry I forgot to take pictures during the making process.

Products needed-
wooden dowels, hot glue, brown & black paint, paint brush and damp washcloth.
1 Drizzle hot glue onto wooden dowel to make dowel look like wand. Hold until set.
2 Paint wand brown and let dry.
3 Mix black paint with a little water. Paint should be runny.
4 Lightly paint wand black, while wet wipe with damp washcloth. Brown paint should show thru. Remember to rub a little more around the handle area. A well-used wand will have a little bit of a worn look.

So, Abracadabra (in the wise words of Steve Miller) and Hocus Pocus too, let’s see what YOU CAN DO! •

So how did she celebrate her birthday this year? Harry Potter party, Baby! Yes that is correct we had a Harry Potter costume party. Everyone came dressed as a characters from the book/movie.
