We are so excited to share with you our

Hogswart Cake

This is the cake that almost did not happen.
The morning of the Birthday party I dropped the CAKE.
Yes, the WHOLE CAKE!

What's a Mom to do???

Talk about a mad dash to come up with a cake.
Walmart- did not have any plain cakes.
Albertsons- They need 24 hour notice.
Small Bakery around the corner- Yes but lots of $$$$
You guessed it, the $$$$ won.

What did we use to make the cake?

Romantic Castle Cake Set

We wrapped each piece with gray or black color fondant.

How do you pronounce fondant???

Spray the cake with edible spray paint.
What- you ask?  Yes, Edible Spray Paint!

Halloween Color Mistâ„¢ Food Color Spray
Again from Wilton

It would not be a Hogswart Cake with out ...

Harry, Ron, Hermione and Hedwig

We could not forget
Hagrid

or the Sorting Hat

Each of the characters were hand made by sculpting colored fondant.
Think of playing with edible play-doh.
Fun Fun Fun - Yum Yum Yum

Marinara Sauce

I am so jealous of all of my luck friends with gardens.

But I am so lucky to have friends with gardens
because they bring beautiful veggies like these.

So, what are we going to make today?

Marinara Sauce

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups tomatoes- chopped or more if you wish to increase the recipe
1 cup chicken broth
1 6oz can tomato paste
1 Tablespoon basil- dried or fresh
2 Tablespoons onion, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and Pepper to taste

Chop tomatoes or puree in a food processor or hand blender for a smoother texture.

Add all ingredients to saucepan.  Cook for 30 minutes to an hour.  Stir often.
Season to your own taste
Allow the liquid to reduce or add additional water to achieve your desired consistency.

You now have a healthy, tasty and homemade Marinara Sauce.

Will your family belive you made dinner yourself?

When baking, follow directions.  When cooking, go by your own taste.  ~Laiko Bahrs

Cork Board

Last week we were so excited to be visiting
Someday Crafts!

This is what we shared with our Someday Craft friends.

At Chameleon Girls you never really know what you are going to get.

We are a lot like Chameleons because
Some days you might get

COOKING

SEWING

CRAFTS

But one thing for sure, what ever we do we always have FUN!

Today we are sticking with crafts and going to show you another
fun, easy, simple and useful idea
or an amazing gift for that hard to shop for person who has everything.

Cork Board

How many of you have a collection of wine corks?
ME, ME ME- I DO!

Wine corks are pretty and qurky.
Like this one in the center.

Gund Lach Bund Schu
Gun Lock Bun Shoe

It's OK if you don't.
You can order them off of Ebay, or ask your favorite cafe or bar if they have any they are tossing out.

Supplies:
  • Wine Corks
  • Hot Glue Glue
  • Glue Sticks (plenty)
  • Frame
  • Thick Cardboard to fit frame

First step is to figure out who is this gift for?
You or that special someone?

That's what I thought-
What room are you going to put it in?

Now gather all of your corks and place them two by two on the cardboad in frame (do not glue yet).

No it's not Noah's Ark.

Fill the entire frame with the corks.
It will get very tight and you might have one row going stright across or you might need to shave a couple, but don't worry they will fit.

By filling the frame first you will know if you have enough corks and if you like your design.
If you don't have enough or don't like the design we will show you another version.

Now for the tricky part-
Pick out each cork and hot glue it into place.

Tutorial of swirl finger nails coming soon...
and Sarah says sorry for her un-finished nail.

Second virsion
Stenciled Cork Board

With this version you will need a sheet of cork board
and glue into place where you would like the stencil.

You can free hand a design or even add a monogram.
We when with a Fleur de Lis.

TA-DA you now have a Cork Board.

You don't want to use plain ol' tacks do you?
How about making

Come visit us at Chameleon Girls and see
what caper we will tackle next.

Pig Pig and More Pig...

Have you ever had one of those weeks when everything is going to the PIGS?
Well this week the pigs have come to us.

Meet our Pigs

We "Pig" sat for friends.

Potbelly PIGS

 Guinea PIG

HedgeHOG

 and

This little Piggy went to market.

Balloon PIG

and went weee weee weee all the way home.

I would like to tell you an amazingly sweet story about our piggy.  While doing our shopping with Ted (that was what Katie was calling him).  We met a lady who had on a breathing mask and gloves (and talking to herself).  I have to admit I thought she was a little strange.  When she noticed I was behind her she laughed and said oops I guess I was talking to myself.  I said the best of us do.  After a few minutes of us talking she asked about "Ted".  I told her he was staying at the market.  She turned to Katie and gave her money so Ted could come home with us.  Katie was uncertain if to take it.  I shook my head it was okay to take the money.  Our new friend Molly explained she has stage 4 Cancer and this was her 4th bout.  She said  her Doctor keeps asking how long she needs and she keeps giving him a time line.  When he asked this last time she said she needs 4 years.  She would like to see her youngest son graduate from College.   All she asked was for us to keep her in our prayers.  You bet we will keep Molly in our heart and prayers.
The moral of this story is-
LOVE more and JUDGE less!

All you need is LOVE
